John Hooker is Chef Proprietor at The Cornish Arms, a thriving Great British pub in the foothills of Dartmoor in the stannary town of Tavistock. As a high-calibre chef, John has held three AA Rosettes, featured in the Good Food Guide and competed on two series of BBC2’s Great British Menu.
In 2014, the pub gained a Michelin Bib Gourmand which has been retained to date and John won the coveted Trencherman’s Chef of the Year award in 2015.
The focus of The Cornish Arms and the ethos of John, Emma and their team is to operate a venue they’d love to visit themselves. The pub serves unpretentious, fuss-free and flavour driven food, has a fantastic beer and wine offering, offers great value for money and is accessible for all to enjoy.
Since opening in May 2013 The Cornish Arms has flourished as a destination pub. It’s featured among the UK’s Top 50 Gastropubs every year since launching and is currently at No. 16.
