Ping Coombes was the winner of TV’s MasterChef in 2014, stunning the judges with her Malaysian heritage food. Ping describes herself as a home cook who was propelled into a ‘dream come true’ world of cooking after winning the coveted title.
Ping was born and raised in the town of Ipoh, Malaysia, famous for its pomelo fruit, chicken noodles and Ipoh white coffee. She was inspired by her mother’s cooking, starting with the basics such as how to hold the ‘wok chan’ (ladle).
Having lived in the UK and travelled around Europe, Ping continues to draw inspiration from her own heritage, while delivering her dishes with modern twists and adapting to ingredients that can be found locally.
